SUMMER
2012
FOR
TALENTED YOUNG ACTORS
14 - 19 & PRE-COLLEGE
July 2 - 29, 2012
BY AUDITION.
SEE INFO BELOW.
This
Workshop is for talented young actors and actresses, ages 14
- 19, who want to focus
on acting and performance skills. This is a
four-week intensive that ends with a public performance of a
fully-staged play. (See photos of past productions.)
The
program immerses teen students in the world of
acting
in a professional, supportive, and creative atmosphere. Each student will rehearse and perform a fully
staged play at the Shadow Box Theatre on the Queensborough
campus on the final weekend of the workshop.
The Acting
Ensemble is in residence in the Shadow
Box Theatre. The students will perform a fully staged
play, such as our 2011 production of PRIDE & PREJUDICE, commissioned
exclusively for our talented actors!
|
The Teen Acting Workshop ALSO includes classes with
working Theatre Arts Professionals in acting, voice and diction,
movement, on-camera technique, stage combat, mime,
Alexander, stage make-up,
period styles, audition technique, improvisation, and other
performing arts. Working Guest
Artists, such as Rod Kinter (fight choreographer for NYCity Opera), Jen Nails (NYC People's Improv Theatre),
Debra Whitfield (Prof. director and teacher), and
Shira-Lee Shalit (award winning film acting
teacher) and Casting Directors teach specialized
classes throughout the four weeks.

TYPICAL
DAY
A
typical day for the Acting Ensemble includes a variety of
theatre arts and acting classes during the morning hours and
then, after lunch, rehearsals for the show they will be
performing.
The workshop is a
full day, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday
WITH final weekend performances.
All
students will have a FEATURED speaking part in the final play presented by
the Ensemble. The 2012 script will be chosen in the
Spring. Students will receive scripts for the show in June
and auditions for the play will take place during the first week of
the workshop.

 Great preparation for
those young actors who are looking to be
accepted into performing arts schools
and colleges. Many Theatre Arts Center students are enrolled
in local performing arts high schools, such as LaGuardia, and choose
to continue their theatre studies professionally and at specialized
universities and conservatories. |
